Tiffany Moisan (610.W) was featured in the 2013-14 Women in Optics Annual Calendar in honor of her work in the remote sensing and laboratory research of ocean color properties as it relates to phytoplankton ecology.
Significant Planned Events
Walt Petersen's (610.W) ROSES-2012 Precipitation Science Team proposal "Synthesis of GPM GV Hydrometeor Datasets for Combined Precipitation Retrieval Algorithms" was selected for funding. Co-Investigators on the proposal team include: Larry Bliven (610.W), David Wolff (610.W), V.N. Bringi (Colorado State University), Ali Tokay (GSFC/UMBC 612.0), and Lawrence Carey (U. Alabama-Huntsville).
A proposal "Blowing Snow Over Antarctica: Implications for Ice Sheet Mass Balance, Sea Ice Thickness and Laser Altimetry" co-Is: A. Marshak (613) and Y. Yang (GESTAR) (PI: S. Palm, SSAI) to NASA ROSES 2012 A.12 Cryospheric Sciences has been selected for an award.

Highlights of Inter-Directorate Teaming
Ralph Kahn (613) and J. Limbacher (SSAI/613) are attending and presenting at the 93rd AMS Annual Meeting, Austin, TX, January 6-10, 2013.
The paper "Algorithm development for predicting biodiversity based on phytoplankton absorption" by Tiffany Moisan, John Moisan, and Matt Linkswiler (all 610.W) has been accepted for publication and is now in press in the Journal of Continental Shelf Research.
Lazaros Oreopoulos (613) and Dongmin Lee (613) are co-authors in a 30+ author paper led by Cynthia Randles (614) on intercomparing the aerosol radiative forcing of a variety of radiative transfer codes.
