Brief Bio

N. Christina Hsu, the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi-NPP) Deputy Project Scientist, has joined Goddard Space Flight Center as a Physical Scientist in the Climate and Radiation Laboratory since February 2005. She has a degree of B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the National Taiwan University (Taipei, Taiwan) in 1984, and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1991.

Hsu has been a member of the NPP VIIRS, EOS MODIS, CERES, and TOMS Science Teams, where her focus is on the properties of aerosols in both the UV and visible spectra and determination of the radiative forcing due to tropospheric aerosols. She authored over 90 papers published in refereed scientific journals, in addi¬tion to a number of scientific and technical reports. One paper has received frequent citations since its publication in 2004 for the innovative development of the Deep Blue algorithm, and was selected to be the cover story of the March, 2004 issue of the IEEE journal Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Her Deep Blue algorithm for retrieving aerosol optical properties over bright desert surfaces and urban environments is widely recognized and is of enormous interest to NASA, NOAA, and the Department of Defense.

During the off-office hours, Hsu enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, reading, and tap dancing. She would also like to visit all the National Parks around the world.
