GSFC Laboratory for Atmospheres, Code 613

David Whiteman (613.1) is participating in the WAVES-2008 (Water Vapor Validation - Satellite/Sondes) field campaign which is under way at the Howard University Research Campus in Beltsville, MD. WAVES-2008 involves ozonesonde and Raman lidar measurements (NASA GSFC, HU and UMBC systems) coordinated with A-Train satellite overpasses with the goal of testing upper tropospheric/lower stratospheric water vapor measurement capability from the mid-Atlantic area under clear, wintertime conditions. The National Weather Service will also be evaluating radiosonde technologies for use in the operational radiosonde network. Numerous students from Howard University, UMCP, UMBC and Trinity University are participating. For more information concerning the WAVES experiments: http://ecotronics.com/lidar-misc/waves.htm
