CODE 613 LABORATORY FOR ATMOSPHERES
Meetings and Workshops
Charles Jackman (613.3) served on the Scientific Organizing Committee and gave an invited talk at the 1st High Energy Particle Precipitation on the Atmosphere workshop in Helsinki, Finland, from May 28-30, 2008.
Several members of the Laboratory for Atmospheres attended and convened special sessions pertaining to the A-train constellation of satellites and related field campaigns at the AGU/Joint Assembly meeting in Ft. Lauderdale the last week of May. These special sessions included a Union session and sessions focused on aerosols, clouds, precipitation and their interaction as well as air quality and the TC4 field campaign that was conducted in Costa Rica last summer. Conveners from the Laboratory include Anne Douglass (613.3), Joanna Joiner (613.3), Peter Colarco (613.3), Bryan Duncan (613.3/UMBC), Mark Olsen (613.3/UMBC), Mark Schoeberl (613.3), David Starr (613.1), and Steven Platnick (613.2). Several other members presented talks and posters including Nick Krotkov (613.3/UMBC), Xiong Liu (613.3/UMBC), and Edward Celarier (613.3/UMBC).
Outreach
Students from all over the world will gather to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind's 29th World Finals, a creative problem-solving competition, at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md., May 31 through June 3. These students have advanced from competitions held earlier in the year at the local, regional, state or country levels and will now compete for the Odyssey's top awards. Outreach participation from Laboratory members include Steven Platnick (613.2) and Rob Simmon (613.2/SSAI).
