Noteworthy science achievements/awards
Ralph Kahn (613.2) was selected by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) to receive the first Yoram J. Kaufman Unselfish Cooperation in Research Awards along with Ross Salawitch (University of Maryland, College Park). This award is named in honor of Yoram J. Kaufman, an outstanding atmospheric scientist, mentor, and creator of international collaborations who worked on atmospheric aerosols and their influence on the Earth's climate for his entire 30-year career. The citation will read: "The Yoram J. Kaufman Award for broad influence in atmospheric science through exceptional creativity, inspiration of younger scientists, mentoring, international collaborations, and unselfish cooperation in research." The awards will be presented at the Atmospheric Sciences banquet during the AGU Fall Meeting in December in San Francisco.

Joel Susskind (613.0), Louis Kouvaris (613.0/SAIC), and John Blaisdell (613.0/SAIC) all attended the AIRS Sounding Science Meeting in Pasadena, California, May 04 - 08. Joel Susskind is a member of the AIRS Science Team and he presented two talks at the meeting. The talks are titled "SRT Status and Plans for Version 6," by Joel Susskind, John Blaisdell, Lena Iredell (613.0/SAIC), and Gyula Molnar with Joel Susskind presenting the talk on May 4, 2009; "Validation of Anomalies and Trends of AIRS Version 5 OLR," by Joel Susskind and Gyula Molnar (613.0/UMBC) with Joel Susskind presenting the talk on May 5, 2009.
