Projects/missions
- The Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) conducted a successful Preliminary Design Review (PDR) last week, July 14 – 17, in Linthicum, MD receiving only nine requests for action (RFAís) from the independent Standing Review Board. The Board cited ìexceptionally high qualityî people on LDCM across all mission elements and the ability to work ìeffectively together to resolve issues and challenges within and across all organizationsî as Project strengths.

External interactions (HQ, universities, other Gov't organizations, etc.)
- Dr. Paul A. Newman (613.3) attended the 29th Meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This is the semi-annual meeting of the 195 nations that have signed the Montreal Protocol - the landmark agreement that regulated the production of ozone depleting substances (ODSs, e.g., chlorofluorocarbons). The meeting largely dealt with two issues: the issue of whether and how to destroy the remaining banks of ODSs, and whether hydorfluorocarbons (HFCs) should be regulated under the Montreal Protocol. See the article in the Washington Post on 20 July 2009 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/19/AR2009071901817.html ) for a description of the HFC issue. Dr. Newman is the co-chair of the Scientific Assessment Panel for the Montreal Protocol.
