Bhartia, Bryan Duncan, Randy Kawa, Ken Pickering, Qian Tan, Huisheng Bian, Maria Tzortziou, Nick Krotkov, Scott Janz, Joanna Joiner, Melanie Follette-Cook, James Gleason (all 613.3), along with Chuck McLain and Antonio Mannino (614.2) are attending the Geostationary Coastal and Air Pollution Events (GEO-CAPE) Decadal Survey Mission Workshop in Columbia, MD, September 22-24, 2009.
- Santiago Gassu (613.2/UMBC) attended the Aura Science meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands on September 14-18, 2009. He presented the poster entitled "The use of Aqua-MODIS derived Level 2 parameters to improve OMI aerosol retrievals".

- Mian Chin (613.3) was invited to attend the ESA/WMO expert consultation meeting on Sand/Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS), held in Barcelona, Spain, September 8-9, 2009. Mian Chin gave a talk entitled "Dust emission, transport, and effects on air quality: A global model simulation and comparison with multi-platform data".

- Bo-Wen Shen (UMCP/ESSIC, 613.1) was interviewed by EARTH Magazine (http://www.earthmagazine.org/), published by American Geological Institute, to give comments on the recent article entitled "Maximum hurricane intensity preceded by increase in lightning frequency" by Price et al. (2009), which was published in Nature Geoscience. The article with Shen's comments was published in the July issue of EARTH
